Art Deco Sweet Sixteen
As a cake designer that focuses on high end weddings, I'm exposed to some really fabulous events. So when my niece's Sweet Sixteen rolled around I knew had had to pull out all the stops for a spectacular party. Sydney has an old soul, loves all things vintage, and has a love for the art deco era. A 1920's party was the obvious choice for such a special occasion.
We found a fabulous art deco invitation that set the tone for the event decor. Gold, glitter, and geometrics work so well together! Other signage highlighted a custom bar menu, a candy concession stand, and a photo booth. The bar tempted guests with fun non-alcoholic beverages served with DIY mustache and bowtie straws. The concession stand offered an assortment of vintage candies including rock candy, playful cigarettes and bubblegum cigars.
We pieced together a photo booth area that featured old hats, gloves and scarves provided by Sydney's Grandmother and Sydney's mom fashioned a few other DIY props using her scrapbooking experience. Much to our surprise the boys couldn't wait to try on all the accessories!
Vintage seating areas were staged in my sister's front yard under a large tree adorned with hanging chandeliers. With rain in the forecast and Colorado weather being a bit unpredictable at times, the garage was transformed into a speakeasy with draping and bistro lights.
The glamorous cake was displayed on a vintage dresser with Sydney's name lit up in marquee lights. Inspired by the stationary items and the fringe from Sydney's dress, the cake featured edible glittery geometrics, dangling sugar fringe and a custom Sweet Sixteen topper.
But no night is complete without making a wish while blowing out your candles... or fireworks in this case!
